May Day 2011

From NortHACKton

On May Day 2011 (Monday 2nd May), the NSME are having their Grand Opening by the Mayor of Northampton. This occurs about 1-1.30pm and then the rides are free for the public until 5pm. Northackton have been invited to join in, and we have a number of suggestions as below.

Exhibition tent

There will be a few tents for demonstrating some of NSME's static abilities and fundraising paraphernalia for the charities associated with the event. We will also get some space and members are encouraged to bring things to show. Examples of demonstrations:

• Pinball machine - Adrian
• TBD - Martin
• Quadcopter - Mat

We could also leave some additional leaflets here but they would probably be better on our stall where we can sell ourselves while handing them out.

Northackton stall

As the NSME were so inspired by our guest talker on solar balloons and teddybear parachuting, Mat's looking to organise this in an adjacent field. Would we have a stall and presence there?

Other suggestions:

• Methods of queue counting, and displaying the information
• Photos of the train rides, taken automatically, offered to people when they alight

Evening festivities: Make it Glow

Other hackerspaces are invited to arrive/remain after 5pm for a BBQ and night hack in the pleasant leafy surroundings of Delapre Park. Make whatever you want in the clubhouse and workshops (possibly NSME members only), but as the sun sets, make it glow!

If you wish to camp, the NSME site has a toilet and kitchen, and you can lock yourself into the site if you're nervous of pranksters in the town interfering with your tent while you sleep.
